Happy St Andrews Day

St Andrew - Patron Saint of Scotland

In January 2007, the St Andrew's Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Act was given royal assent, making 30 November (or the nearest Monday if a weekend) a bank holiday in Scotland. However, instead of being a full public holiday, it is a voluntary public holiday.
On 30 November, Scottish people celebrate St Andrew's Day.

The Scottish flag is the cross of St. Andrew, also known as the Saltire. It is said to be one of the oldest national flags of any country, dating back at least to the 12th century.
Who was St Andrew? St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland St. Andrew was one of the Twelve Apostles (disciples of Jesus) and brother of Simon Peter (Saint Peter). He was a fisherman by trade, who lived in Galilee (in present-day Israel.)

Why is St Andrew's symbol a white cross on a blue background? St. Andrew is believed to have died on a diagonally transversed cross which the Romans sometimes used for executions and which, therefore, came to be called St. Andrew's cross. The blue stands for the sky.
The thistle is widely regarded as the emblem of Scotland.
Facts, Customs and Traditions St. Andrew's Day is connected with Advent, which begins on the nearest Sunday to 30 November.

St. Andrew's Day marks the opening of Christmas Markets.

Many Midwinter customs and folk superstitions are also connected to St. Andrew's day.
Around midnight on Nov. 29, the day before St Andrew's Day, it was traditional for girls to pray to St. Andrew for a husband. They would make a wish and look for a sign that they had been heard.
A girl wishing to marry could: Throw a shoe at a door. If the toe of the shoe pointed in the direction of the exit, then she would marry and leave her parents' house within a year.
Peel a whole apple without breaking the peel and throw the peel over the shoulder. If the peel formed a letter of the alphabet, then this suggested the name of her future groom.

SEX ON FIRE

KINGS OF LEONKINGS OF LEON

Only By The Night delivers on the promise Kings of Leon have shown throughout their career, stunning melodies. From the atmospherics of the opening track "Closer" (which Caleb says is about a lovesick vampire) to the emotional intensity of the closing ballad "Cold Desert" ("about a man at the end of his rope who picks himself back up"), Only By The Night is all heart from start to finish.

Album highlights include the insistently chugging first single "Sex on Fire" ("there's always been an element of sex in our music, so I thought I'd just wrap it all up in one song and be done with the sex for the rest of the record," Caleb jokes), the throbbing, propulsive "Crawl" (about relationships of all kinds and taking them for granted), and the sonically sweeping "Use Somebody," which Caleb wrote while feeling lonely on the road. "It's about being far from home." Then there's the soaring uplift of "Manhattan," which is partly about dancing and enjoying life and partly about the struggles of Native Americans. "'Manhattan' is actually a Native American word that means 'island of many hills,'" says Caleb, who adds that his family has Native American blood. Finally there's the driving, forceful "Notion," which finds the singer pushing back against anyone who says anything against anyone in his band.

Use Somebody Lyrics

Lead Singer Caleb. This guy is sex on fire.Sizzling and smolderingly hot..

I've been roaming around always lookin down at all I see.
Painted faces fill the places I can't reach.
You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody
Someone like you
And all you know and how you speak
Countless lovers undercover of the street
You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody
Someone like you
Off in the night while you live it up I'm off to sleep
Waging wars to shake the poet and the beat
I hope it's gonna make you notice
I hope it's gonna make you notice
Someone like me
Someone like me
Someone like me
Somebody
(Go and let it out)
Someone like you
Somebody
Someone like you
Somebody
Someone like you
Somebody
I've been roaming around always lookin down at all I see

So guys this is a stocking filler album with great eye candy Kings Of Leon merit that place. Just thought a bit of music wouldn't go a miss on my blog. Here's a perv at Sex On Fire Video

Madame Arcati

Well fellow bloggers, and floozies of the most honourable character. You may already be aware for those ladies that visit The Guild Of Harlots (my favourite whore hang-out) that I'm doing my usual. For those that don't know me. I'm the "sniffer dog", hounding the lives of fellow strumpets with my general durty mouthed ways! I always enjoy bringing people together...possibly an occupational hazard. I try not to make my blog very "industry related" as I know us ladies enjoy reading each others thoughts, catch up on what each of us are doing etc.

So here's my latest shenanigans!

Soon after watching "that" talk show with Denise the agony of every aunt, Philip that ex kids t.v. puppet. Think Ferns off on another diet, you know the show I mean. Well the topic was about new proposed laws regarding prostitution. So we ladies had good representation from a fellow floozy and surprisingly we also had a "punter" prepared to speak. The first one prepared to given the political climate. Quite a few of you will be aware of Sebastian Horsley so he needs no introduction. If not ... where have you been! You will notice a link to his blog for you all to have a wee gander and you may also want to read his book that discussed the subject of prostitution, his account and guide to whoring. It gives a good insight to Sebastian's dandy world. I'm not going to deliberate over the content of the show as I'll likely bore you all with politics. I'll save that writing for my thick Andrex loo roll.

I found a link from a comment Madame Arcati had written on Sebastian's blog. My curiosity and sheer nosiness led me to explore further. Some of you gals have already added Madame Arcati to your blog roll but you will also notice the link on mine. I posted a comment to Madame Arcati which then led to yours truly being invited to do an e-mail interview. Madame Arcati will have the interview which is industry related posted early next week. So if anyones interested, get the china tea set out, pour a cup of tea and join Madame at her place.
I picked this specific picture (above) of Dame Margaret Rutherford which is Madame Arcati's profile picture because, good old Margaret deserves a place on any blog. No-one could do Miss Marple like the great Dame herself.

W. Somerset Maugham

 William Sumerset Maugham 1874-1965

born 1874 - died 1965

I'm feeling inspired to read. Not that I don't read, I often do whenever the mood takes me. So I sensed Somerset Maugham and it's going to be his short stories. Good enough for my attention span in a restless month. When I say "sensed" there was something instinctive around today.

In one of my reflective moods today. Ok start at the beginning, been bumping into people from my past today. Significantly, one friend I grew up with, even though years go by we always seem to pick up wherever we left off. Food for the soul and a real joy to catch up. The catching up was a 2hr coffee!

As the sky was changing to darkness, at about 3.30pm the sun had turned a red colour shadowed by some wandering clouds. I pondered my day so far and thought about reading. Don't know if it was word association with sunset, as I looked at the burnt coloured sun I thought about Somerset Maugham.

Time for just me in silent peace, costs nothing only a little bit of time to connect with this "food for the soul" that nourishes. So much over a period of time has had me considering the needs of others. I forgot myself, she was their but sitting somewhere on a shadowed cloud waiting like a love lost.

Again I had the opportunity for inspiration early evening in Edinburgh. Chatting frivolously with another friend who has a vast knowledge of books and years experience of writing. Amused with me as I romanticise life in my adventure seeking way. Oblivious to my recollections earlier on today as we engrossed in conversation. I was stopped in my tracks when suggested by my friend something to read. Yip it was him, the man himself..Somerset Maugham!!! How bizarre, of all the people, books, poetry blah blah blah that could have been suggested it was "that guy".

Isn't it interesting how things present to you, like an offering? So I may go on a short journey and see where it leads. Down Somerset Maugham's path of short stories. Liza of Lambeth is my first port of call.

SCI FI....EROTICA

Alien

Remember the film Alien anyone? Scared the pants off me! Well my claim to fame was while on a night out some years ago in Edinburgh I shared a drink with a guy that was in this film which was the sequal about the prison planet. He played the prison governor and was eaten by an alien. He drank Campari and Lemonade!! He's dead in real life I believe

Anyway if anyone is interested in SciFi there's an informative website resource so take a look it's: http://www.scifipulse.net

Also there is a healthy British development in erotic comics. So for any comic buffs out there who may join me in thinking Tim Pilcher is pretty cool maybe this will tickle your taste buds:

Erotic Comics

Tim Pilcher's Erotic Comics: A Graphic History, Volume 1: From Birth to the 1970s book (pictured above) has been banned by Australian customs from entering the country. Customs have demanded that a special large sticker with an "M" on it must be placed on the cover—indicating that the book is for “Mature Readers”—otherwise the books will be prevented from being sold in Australia. Tim Pilcher said, “I find it ludicrous and risible that the Australian authorities need a big sticker to point out the book is for ‘adults only’. Surely the word ‘Erotic’ in the title gives it away? Perhaps they got confused with the word ‘Comics’ and couldn’t believe that adults read sequential literature!”

erotic comics 2
The second volume in the series (pictured above) is due to be published on 8 January 2009 in the UK (the American edition is to be released by Abrams ComicArts on 1 March), picking up where the first volume left off, revealing how European, American and Asian artists have explored the possibility of the form in the years since the explosion of the Sixties’ underground comix.

Erotic Comics: A Graphic History, Volume 2 examines how the form has become an international publishing phenomenon by showcasing artwork that has inflamed desires, incensed censors, and caused controversy. This provocative title covers everything: the erotic comics explosion in America in the mid-’80s; the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender comics scene; UK and European erotic comic creators since the ’70s; and the Japanese hentai phenomenon. The future of erotic comics online is also explored in this fascinating and surprising volume.

In the first survey of its kind in over 20 years, volume 2 completes this fascinating two-part chronicle with previously unpublished, rare and out-of-print material, featuring insights from key artists, editors, and publishers. Fully illustrated with stunning, rare and seldom-seen art by Howard Cruse, Gengoroh Tagame, Melinda Gebbie, Hunt Emerson, Howard Chaykin, Giovanna Casotto (whose work graces the cover), Tom of Finland, Milo Manara, Junko Mizuno, and many other top erotic cartoonists. The informative text provides a sexy, intriguing, and entertaining tour through the origins of an often-overlooked art form and comic book genre.
